One thing you should know about me is I’m terrible at keeping track of time and understanding how long things take, a classic feature of raging ADHD. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise when I tell you I completely forgot to go to the grocery store last Friday, as I wasn’t aware it had been four weeks since my last trip.
Am I going to go this week? Well, that will be a fun surprise for all of us later. As we saw yesterday, I’m not exactly cooking on fumes. Plus, the garden— the garden!!! This morning I have been out on a rainy walk around our acre to see what’s going on. It was a pungent walk if I’m being honest; a less charming feature of early Spring here is a mushroom called stink horn, which looks like an erect dog dong and smells like a dirty diaper washed up on the beach. But the vegetables are buzzing with life, and though none of them are ready to harvest in bulk, most of them are ready to harvest just a little.
So tonight I’m making soup with mixed greens. Tender baby leaves of spinach, arugula, and lacinato kale into a pot with the last of my lima beans from 2023 and my last big yellow potato. On top, Greek feta and chili crisp. I’ve also found a few slices of sweet potato sourdough in the freezer and I think it will make perfect crispy garlic bread to serve on the side.
Your garden gives me such inspiration for my weekly CSA haul! We always get loads of greens, and still have tons of rutabagas and turnips. Soup sounds good!
