Severe fatigue and joint pain struck hard yesterday and prevented my regular prep from happening. I spent a grouchy day on the sofa, angry and sad to be missing Keshia’s rebrand launch party. I managed to mix together overnight oats, roast whole heads of garlic, and cook Caballero beans in water with salt. The fridge door* remains sparkly clean, devoid of any direction for the coming week.
The garden however, is full of direction, absolutely bursting with spinach, chard, herbs, arugula. Fava beans are blooming little googly eyes, beetroot is filling out, and the air is heady with the scent of tomato leaves. This morning I picked a big bowl of baby spinach and blanched it. Later I think I’ll puree it with a ladel of beans and lots of garlic, then stir that creamy green goo in with the rest of the beans and their cooking liquid. And since it seems to be my goal in life to bore you to death with repetition, I’ll throw in yellow potatoes and a pat of butter! Dill from the yard and a dollop of creme fraiche on top; toasted slices of buckwheat and walnut bread from Dozen on the side.
